Knowledge about Clean Benches

Clean bench, also known as ultra-clean table, is a kind of local purification equipment can provide a high degree of clean working environment, is one of the common laboratory equipment, then how to use it? Let's take a look at some of the relevant knowledge:

Placement The clean bench should be placed in a location where there is less foot traffic and away from the door, this is to make the airflow around the equipment relatively smooth and not to disturb the airflow in the operating area.
Sterilisation work before experimentation Before each use of the clean bench, the UV lamp must be turned on to sterilise the work area for 30 minutes, then turn off the UV lamp and turn on the fan for 3-5 minutes before use.

Cleaning work in/after the experiment

In the experimental process, all the tools used need to be disinfected with alcohol wipe before they can be placed on the bench. After the experiment, make sure to clean and sterilise the equipment, especially the table, and turn on the UV lamp to sterilise it after cleaning, then turn off the power.
Maintenance and care The clean bench needs regular cleaning or replacement of the primary filter, the specific replacement cycle according to the cleanliness of the environment.

Clean bench maintenance and maintenance work

1. When replacing the filter, you can open the back cover of the chassis, when replacing it, you must pay attention to the arrow mark on the filter, the direction the arrow points to is the flow direction of the laminar airflow.

2. Regularly remove the filter media from the coarse filter for cleaning, the specific interval can be determined according to the environmental cleanliness program, the general interval is 3-6 months.

3. When replacing the filter, the dust particle counter should be checked for good sealing, and then the voltage of the air unit should be adjusted so that the average wind speed in the working area of the clean bench can be maintained within the range of 0.4±10% m/s. The specific clean efficiency can be checked by using the dust particle counter.

4. If the air speed in the working area still does not reach 0.3m/s when the voltage of the fan unit is set to maximum, the air filter must be replaced.

The difference between a clean bench and a biosafety cabinet

Differences in function

The clean bench uses a fan to suck the air into the air filter, then after passing through the static pressure box, it comes to the high efficiency filter to filter the air impurities. The clean air is then sent to the operating room to achieve the cleanliness of the space and to ensure that the whole space is clean as required.

The biological safety cabinet is a kind of air negative pressure facility. Sometimes some dangerous or unknown biological particles will be released during the experiment. This kind of equipment is to prevent these substances from diffusing into the air.
Differences in classification

There are two main types of clean bench: horizontal laminar flow and vertical laminar flow. They are also classified according to their operating structure or use.

Biological safety cabinets are classified according to the NSF49 standard and are generally classified as P1 to P4.
Differences in use Clean benches are mainly equipment that brings clean air to a clean environment. They are widely used in medicine and hygiene, biopharmaceuticals, food and laboratories. To a large extent, this equipment improves the environmental conditions of production processes and enhances product quality.
Biological safety cabinets are mainly used in a variety of fields such as microbiology, biomedicine, genetic engineering and biological products to facilitate research, teaching and clinical testing. This equipment plays more of a protective role.
