What are HEPA and ULPA filters?

When used in diverse applications, HEPA and ULPA filters both eliminate dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any other airborne particulates that could damage employees.

HEPA stands for high efficiency particulate air [filter].Theoretically, this kind of air filter can eliminate 99.97% or more of dust, pollen, mold, germs, and any other airborne particles smaller than 0.3 microns (m).

ULPA stands for Ultra-Low particulate air [filter]. For the maximum level of air filtration in sensitive regions, ULPA filters are necessary. Dust, pollen, mold, and bacterium particles at 0.12 microns or bigger can be removed from the air using a ULPA filter that complies with North American and European test standards by at least 99.999%.

The Differences between ULPA and HEPA filters

ULPA and HEPA filters share many qualities but differ in several critical respects. Both filters produce a fine mesh filter from layers of thick fibers that traps impurities as air is driven through them. In order to capture impurities, HEPA and ULPA filters combine diffusion, interception, and inertial impaction.

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) states that ULPA filters should eliminate airborne particles with a diameter of 0.1 m and 0.3 m, respectively. ULPA filters are said to be more effective than HEPA filters because they are rated to remove 99.9995% of airborne pollutants. The efficiency rating of a HEPA filter is 99.995%.

HEPA efficiency rating: 99.995%, providing an ISO Class 5

ULPA efficiency rating: 99.999% removing airborne particles, providing an ISO Class 3

Application of HEPA and ULPA Filter

In a variety of business and residential settings, HEPA and ULPA filters are essential for limiting the transmission of airborne allergens, infections, and cross-contamination. What other things may HEPA/ULPA filters shield? A filter is necessary to maintain a clean atmosphere for common laboratory equipment used in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries.

The following is a list of lab instruments that need HEPA or ULPA filters.

HEPA Filters

Laminar flow cabinets and biological safety cabinets are two biological & healthcare applications that are more generally and frequently employed.

ULPA Filters

used in specialized applications such manufacturing microelectronics, semiconductors, or pharmaceutica
